Counseling Changes in Response to COVID-19

In response to CDC recommendations to limit contact with others and Emmaus moving all classes online for the remainder of the semester, we will not be providing in-person counseling for students for the remainder of the Spring 2020 semester. For continuing or starting services, we wanted to communicate available options for you:

  • Telehealth Appointments are available for all students. Click on the updated Online Booking link to start the process. Choose “I’m a New Client” even if you were seen on campus previously.
    • We are able to provide counseling in Iowa, Wisconsin, and Illinois for certain. If you are in another state and wish to pursue counseling, please email or call and Heath will verify current rules for licensing. These are changing frequently so we want to provide you with the most up to date information possible.
  • Coordinating Care - We can help coordinate care if you've been seen on campus previously and wish to see someone near to home, personally or via telehealth. Let Heath know and he will work with you through it.
  • Crisis - If you have a mental health crisis, there are several resources available for you:
    • Crisis Text Line: text HOME to 741741
    • Call the National Hotline: 1-800-273-TALK
    • Call 911
    • Go to the nearest hospital
    • Here’s a great article regarding myths surrounding crisis hotlines that can help. If you’re having a hard time any time day or night, you can use these.
  • Hope - Remember that our hope is not in what we can do but what our God has done for us. It’s hard to feel at times, but we can choose to say with the psalmist, “You are my hiding place and my shield; I hope in your word” (Ps 119:114) and “When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul” (Ps 94:19). Let us help you through this time when it may be hard to feel that even if intellectually you believe it to be true.
  • Additional Resources - Below are a few resources for this situation. We'll add more as we come across them so please check back!
