Counseling Changes in Response to COVID-19

As the college is underway for fall 2020, I'm excited to meet with you again! In conjunction with other campus changes this fall, I want to find a good balance of safety and care for having counseling services on campus.

For continuing or starting services, we have the following options for you:

  • Telehealth Appointments are available for all students. This is a secure video meeting that you can participate in from your dorm room or other confidential location.
    • Pros: No mask needed, no travel necessary, same level of engagement and conversation as in person.
    • Cons: Not in person, you have to be in Iowa during the appointment, subject to technology disruptions (minimal but it does happen).
    • To schedule, choose the Video Office option when scheduling an appointment (Online Scheduling).
  • In-Person Appointments are also available.
    • Pros: Live interactions can be helpful for some in discussing difficult things.
    • Cons: Mask required to be worn during the session.
Additional session times are available this fall to help find a time that works for you. This means I have more time open in the schedule than I'm able to use for appointments. This is to allow you the most flexibility in finding a time that works. Efforts will be made to close the schedule when the limit has been met for the week though there may be occasions where appointments will need rescheduled. I want you to be informed in advance, but please don't hesitate to schedule an appointment. You're not "taking someone else's spot" and your needs are just as valid as others'.
You are not locked into only meeting in person or via telehealth and are welcome to change between modes as it fits you and your schedule. Some times are only available for telehealth so you can check that calendar if wanting to get in sooner.
